Natural Remedies for Stress & Exhaustion

Tired of feeling stressed and exhausted? You can have more energy, think clearly, and feel overall motivated by becoming aware of the cycle you are in, and following 3 simple ideas.

The Cycle

The cycle begins when we take on too many projects, or do more thanour bodies and minds are capable. So, we rely on stimulants to help us meet our extra obligations. This stresses the exhaustionadrenals whichcauses exhaustion, so we take more stimulants to feel energetic and get caught up in the cycle of increasing our intake of stimulants, taking on more projects, getting less sleep, getting more stressed, etc, etc, until we are completely exhausted.

The real problem is, then it starts working on other weak points in our body (organs or tissues), producing the possibility of conditions or diseases as a result of too much stress. Then our immune reserves start tapping not only our adrenals, but from other organs, depending upon personal weaknesses.

Adrenal Fatigue is seen as exhaustion, and increasing amounts of caffeine only leaves you more exhausted as the drug (caffeine) wears off. Other symptoms include dark circles under the eyes. If it progresses much further we see the person feel faint when standing up quickly. Another symptom is the inability to fall asleep. It actually takes energy to sleep. (Many sleep medications force you to sleep while creating dependence.)

Breaking the Cycle of Exhaustion

First, consider your work and life situations. Are you taking breaks at work and actually eating lunch? Are you avoiding fast foods that rob you of nutrition and further exhaust your energy? This is a good start. What do you do for fun? Are you having enough fun in life or are you at the daily grind? Sometimes it takes an attitude to have fun and see the humorous side of life. Also, learn when to say no, to keep your “full plate” from overflowing.

Second, make sure you are getting the nutrition you need by going to your local health food store where you can find whole-food vitamins. New Chapter Whole-food vitamins are different; they are made from whole foods that your body recognizes the nutrients and knows what to do with them. Available in one-a-day, men’s and women’s formulas.

Third, certain herbs are tonics and can restore the adrenal functioning and help you have the energy you need. As your mineral reserve is probably low, use cell salts to fill the void. Use other homeopathics for emotional and physical support.

Herbs for Stress & Exhaustion

Herbs are plants valued for their specific strengthening/ tonifying properties.

Lavender – feeds the nerves, strengthens the adrenals and improves digestion.

Siberian Ginseng, now called Eleutherococcus as an adaptogen. Adaptogens help to reduce stress, increase energy, and feed the adrenals so they can function at a higher level, without stimulant effects.

(Remember, with stimulants what goes up must come crashing down.) These two herbs may take a couple of weeks for maximum effects.

If your sleep is affected, add the herb Melissa (Lemon balm). This herb feeds the nerves and allows the person to relax and sleep better.

Natural Uterine Fibroid Support

Uterine fibroids are non-cancerous growths inside or outside of the uterus and may cause excessive or severe bleeding. Up to 30% of women experience uterine fibroids and 20% of these may need intervention. The growths may be so large as to displace other organs or interfere with proper functioning. Doctors often use surgery to remove large uterine fibroids.

Symptoms include severe bleeding, painful bleeding, pain in the pelvic region, headaches, backaches, irritable rectum and bladder, profuse vaginal discharges, especially watery. Stalk-like fibroids that extend into the pelvic cavity can cause pain, nausea, or fever. Larger uterine fibroids may be detected by a pelvic exam as they can grow to the size of a basketball. The size of the fibroids can cause some to the symptom to other organs as they grow. Brown spots on the face, especially around the mouth, may be an indication of uterine fibroids.

Menstrual irregularity, another symptom of uterine fibroids, may be caused by excessive estrogen production from chronic use of estrogen-containing drugs like birth control pills. When birth control pills are discontinued, regular cycles and fertility may ensue. Less than 1% of uterine fibroids become cancerous.

A release of melanotropin from the posterior pituitary can cause uterine fibroids. However, they are most commonly cause by chemical birth control and a diet heavy in meat, which is also high in estrogens.

A natural treatment begins with early elimination of chemical birth control and a vegetarian diet. Natural ways can be effective especially if treated early. If not severe, fibroids can diminish naturally at menopause when progesterone starts to drop off.

“I believe that many uterine fibroids could be cured, if the homeopath was allowed to treat them. After all, a fibroid tumor is made up of muscle and varying amount of fibrous tissue. It is not malignant, burrowing into surrounding structures till firmly anchored therein. True, after a long time, an occasional fibroid may show signs of malignant degeneration, but they are harmless for many years. The lump of muscle, if not too big, should yield to homeopathy.”

Calcerea carb – obesity, itching burning genitals. Menses too early, too profuse, too long. Cold damp feet. Cutting pains in uterus during menstruation.

Ulcerative Colitis Natural Remedies

Ulcerative colitis is an inflammation and ulceration of the rectum which can ascend up through the whole large intestine. The symptoms of ulcerative colitis are mostly chronic diarrhea with blood in the stool. Frequently there is weakness, lack of appetite, pain of the left abdomen, rectal pain and even cramping. We often see mucus in the stool. Ulcerative colitis can be associated with canker sores of the mouth, rashes, and joint problems. Symptoms may come and go, but often will become more severe. Those most affected ulcerative colitis are 15 to 30 years of age with auto-immune problems.

Causes of ulcerative colitis may be lifestyle (stress), poor diet (refined and processed foods.) and likely from smoking. NSAIDS (non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) may also be a cause or aggravate the problem.

Modern medicine uses various methods of diagnosis, sometimes linking ulcerative colitis with Crohn’s disease, irritable bowel, colitis, tumors or even diverticulitis. The treatments for ulcerative colitis may be steroids or other immunosuppressive drugs. If symptoms are not being suppressed by medications and their side effects or toxicity, then surgery may be suggested and can create a non reversible problem. All of which have a low success rate.

Natural perspectives believe that the body has the ability to repair itself given the right tools and diet. First correct the diet and use nutritional, herbal, homeopathic and cell salt support. Diet is important. Reduce junk foods, smoking, alcohol, coffee, etc. Eat foods that are fresh and those which agree with your gastro-intestinal system.

Helpful supplements include NAC (n-acetyl-cysteine), 2 caps 3 times a day to support the liver and reduce mucus production. Grape seed extract supports connective tissue integrity.

Natural Stomach Ulcer Remedies

Our stomach and digestive system is lined with brain-type cells. People that get stomach ulcers are often stressed and hold their anger, stress, and frustration in their gut, suggesting that ulcers are affected by our thoughts. Stomach ulcers frequently cause pain shortly (15-60 minutes) after eating. The pain is generally in the liver-gallbladder region (lower right abdomen). Ulcers are noticed mostly in the fall and springtime.

Ulcer symptoms start with bouts of indigestion. It may begin with discomfort in the upper right side of the abdomen and may radiate through a spot in the back. Pains can also be felt in the fingertips. Be aware of low stomach acid conditions which are seen as discomfort right after meals. It is a precursor for stomach ulcers.

Excess acid conditions are when there is digestive discomfort 2-3 hours after meals. This sets up the conditions for duodenal ulcers. Duodenal ulcers (below the stomach) often have pain that radiates to the tip of the lower right shoulder blade, which is also a sign of gall bladder problems. These pains are experienced morning and night, subside with eating, and resume 2-3 hours after meals.

The medical field uses acid reducers for ulcers. While reducing symptoms, these medications hamper the immune system, contribute to osteoporosis, anemia and poor protein assimilation, and create other side effects.

It has been observed that female hormones protect against ulcers. They are rarely seen in women 20 to 45 years old. Another cause is tobacco, which is the number one cause of stomach cancer.

Natural solutions include reducing stress. Some people need counseling or a change in job or a relationship. Using nutritional supplements such as Aloe Vera Juice soothes mucus membranes of the entire digestive tract. Olive oil a few drops ingested at a time may soothe stomach pain. Scrape ashes from one burned toast into a glass of water, several times a day, or use charcoal powder in caps.

Tremors Natural Remedies

Rhythmical muscle spasms with an alternation of opposing muscle groups are tremors. It is most commonly recognized in the hands, but may be seen in the neck and other parts.
The key is that tremors have a regular rhythm. Other symptoms of tics or jerks belong to a different discussion with athetosis, chorea, dystonia, ballism, or Parkinson’s disease, although treatments may be similar.

Causes to be ruled out: brain disease, hyper thyroidism, drug toxicity from prescription or over-the-counter meds. Most conditions can be treated naturally but its best to get a diagnosis and rule out other diseases.

According to modern medicine, again the cause must be known, tremors are treated with drugs (they all have side effects and may have to be used for a very long time). If stress or anxiety has induced the tremors the use of anti-depressant or other psychotic drugs may be prescribed. Counseling may be a good option for anxiety and stress.

Natural Perspective
Ayurvedic tradition says that tremors are a Vata disturbance of the muscles. It is the nerves of the muscle that need help. Chinese medicine says the liver controls the sinews and muscles and most tremors are caused by liver problems. This includes toxicity from medicines or alcohol which affect the liver. Another cause is often nerve or stress conditions to which natural therapies for tremors are particularly helpful.

Nutrition for tremors includes:

Magnesium citrate to relax the muscles.

Alpha lipoic acid to increase anti-oxidant power

Vitamin B-complex to reduce the consequences of stress.

Lifestyle
Slow down if anxious our stressed. What’s the hurry? Smell the roses. If a relationship is making things worse seek counseling. If work is stressing you, re-examine your priorities. Change your lifestyle before the universe (circumstances) changes it for you.

Natural Snoring Remedies

Snoring is an unacceptable noise when a person is lying down sleeping and occurs most frequently when lying on the back. When the soft palate in the throat closes down, it causes a vibration and the snoring noise. The tissue is too soft; this is one of many theories. Modern medicine tries to stop snoring with surgery, but is not always successful.

From the natural perspective, snoring is caused by weak connective tissue that can be helped by natural therapies. Snoring may come from excess mucus, allergies and other factors such as weight problems. Poor digestion may also contribute to snoring. Thus, eliminate tobacco, alcohol, coffee, black tea, soda and dairy products.
