Hypoglycemia includes symptoms of irritability, anger, dizziness and blurred vision, depression, weakness, and sugar cravings from excess insulin production which causes blood sugar levels to drop below normal. There are 3 types of hypoglycemia but we we’ll talk about functional hypoglycemia because the causes are fairly simple. Rarer types of hypoglycemia can stem from liver failure or tumors of the liver or pancreas. Causes of functional hypoglycemia are often poor diet choices (high in fat and sugar – low in nutrients) and stress conditions.
Modern medicine rarely recognizes hypoglycemia as a condition or disease as it may mimic other diseases or conditions. As a functional hypoglycemic they usually offer orange juice or sugar for reactions, but this hurts in the long term.
Naturally, we want to what is causing the symptoms of hypoglycemia. First, look at a diet. If it is rich in fast foods, sugar, coffee, caffeine, alcohol and sodas, these are the main culprit. Change to a protein-rich diet and fresh whole fruits and vegetables – this is to stop an overproduction of insulin. Also see insulin resistance. If the symptoms are still there after a diet correction we think of stress and fatigue from adrenal exhaustion as a common cause. A weak thyroid can also be a cause to a hypothyroid condition.
Natural supplements for hypoglycemia include Chromium taken 2 times a day (GTF Chromium is most effective); B vitamins are also important to reduce stress.
