Menopause Natural Remedies

Menopause for women starts generally between the age of 45 and 50. Sometimes it may start before 40 and last as long as 55. A woman’s period is irregular, becoming less frequent, and will finally leave during this time, or women may have more frequent periods with heavier bleeding. In other cases the period becomes lighter and more watery, often becomes darker with clotty discharges, and can become mucus-like.

Also during this time the face grows round, the breasts sag. Others lose weight and severely wrinkle. The face gets more hair. The hair of the head thins, as well as the posture. The uterus and ovaries recede. The ovaries and eggs turn to connective tissue. The function of the ovaries changes as well as hormones. Often the uterus sags; prolapse is common. This is why many women get hysterectomies. It is for this very reason you must not forget how important the care of your pelvic area is.

Signs and symptoms associated with menopause
Blood pressure elevated; blood sugar changes; breast lumps; breast sagging; breast cancer; cholesterol high; depression; facial hair, excessive; hair loss; heart disease; heart palpitations; hot flashes; incontinence; insomnia; memory decreased; mood changes; nausea; night sweats; osteoporosis; periods, heavy, light, or, irregular; sex drive low; skin changes; thyroid problems; urinary tract infections; uterine cancer; uterine fibroids and/or polyps; vaginal dryness.

Hormone replacement vs natural treatment
HRT (hormone replacement therapy) has many negative effects that are listed by Dr. Lee in a chart included in these notes. It is quite a list.

ESTROGEN hormone replacement is popular because it produces fast results in treating hot flashes, vaginal dryness and thinning, and osteoporosis. It has also shown to improve emotional symptoms in some women. There is much controversy as to heart and cardiovascular benefits.

There is considerable research that shows that hormonal replacement therapy alters monthly cycles, causes cancer, liver disease, and increases risks of gallbladder disease. It has been shown to produce depression and promote or cause uterine fibroids. Interestingly, some research shows it causes cardiovascular diseases such as high blood pressure, heart attacks and even blood clots (strokes)!

The choice really comes down to know your options and being informed about them. Some doctors take the risks in stride and call them acceptable as your hot flashes and other symptoms subside. It is the old “cost versus risk” equation.

PROGESTERONE replacement therapy is also very popular with almost every one as progesterone crèmes touted as “natural.” The fact is that there are no natural progesterone crèmes, PERIOD. They are derived from Wild Yam in a laboratory. It comes out as a chemical just like any other drug. By mouth or by skin it is a drug. Some studies show that it reduces the risks of uterine cancer. They also show that it negatively effects cholesterol, blood sugars, can cause high blood pressure, heart attacks and strokes. It also changes the emotions and causes breast cancer. Remember, it is the game of cost versus benefit. Do you want to play the game? Even if these drugs may help you to feel better, there are three important risks:

  • They atrophy your glands. If you don’t use them, you lose them.
  • They damage your feedback mechanisms (a constant bombardment of hormones may damage your receptors).
  • Cellular hormonal resistance is dead-ended and the cells no longer respond. (There’s no natural ebb and flow or hormones.)

If these problems cause permanent damage, you may be stuck on drugs until you die!

BIO-IDENTICAL HORMONES doesn’t mean natural, just more specific drugs. They are usually compounded at a special pharmacy and like all drugs can treat symptoms quickly, especially hot flashes, vaginal thinning and dryness, and might even treat a low sex drive. They have many of the same drawback as normal hormonal replacement therapy. OK, OK, so now you have heard the bad news.

THE GOOD NEWS IS – all you have to do is help your body work the way it is supposed to and nature will take away most of the symptoms of menopause! The rest of this class is the good news how to help your body to function and do its job.

WHAT YOU CAN DO NATURALLY. Help the body to produce its own hormones and then everything works better on its own. The main goal is to get the adrenals to produce the right amount of estrogen will give some aid to hormonal problems.

Dietary changes are important to preserving liver integrity. The liver is the major player on producing hormonal changes. Liver damaging goods are tobacco, alcohol, coffee, black tea, and soda pop. Using specific herbs, cell salts, and homeopathics will contribute for optimal health. Then you can go through menopause gracefully.

Endometriosis Natural Remedies

Endometriosis happens when the endometrial lining (uterine lining) grows outside of the uterus, most frequently on the fallopian tubes and in the abdomen. It can grow almost anywhere in the body and sheds with the normal hormonal cycle.

Endometrial tissue can be of a light filmy composition and growth can be severe enough to be deeply imbedding fibrous scar tissue which restricts movement of organs in the abdominal cavity. It is estimated that it may afflict at least 10% of woman of child bearing years. Risk factors of endometriosis include early onset of menses, heavy bleeding, IUD usage, family history of endometriosis, poor sexual relationships or sexual abuse, poor diet, frequent genital infections.

Symptoms of endometriosis include pains (abdominal, back, vaginal, and uterine) and pain while having sex, infertility, painful menstruation, gas, bloating, and urinary irregularities. Causes of endometriosis include theories such as reverse flow periods, stress, and poor immune response – there is no consensus.  Medical response: diagnosis of endometriosis comes by ultrasound when women have pain or infertility. Symptoms of endometriosis are treated with NSAIDS (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) which may lead to gastrointestinal bleeding and other side effects.

The next step in treating endometriosis is to prescribe estrogen in the form of birth control pills. While somewhat effective for endometriosis, it creates numerous side effect risks. Next some treatments for endometriosis include medications that put a woman into semi-menopause state (risky). Surgery to remove scar tissue from endometriosis may be beneficial but not increase ability to conceive. Surgery has risks, especially when symptoms of endometriosis recur. The last ditch effort to treat endometriosis is a total hysterectomy – ovaries and all – which is very risky.

Natural treatments for endometriosis include a comprehensive evaluation with family history, abuse issues if any, self esteem, diet, physical symptoms, and emotional outlook. The body, mind and spirit are connected and need to be treated as such.

Endometriosis can be helped naturally with a combination of natural supplements. It may take several months to a couple of years for most symptoms to leave. Whether or not endometriosis can be cured is up to your body, but symptoms can usually be managed effectively and a woman can feel much better. Fertility issues may also have a better outcome. The woman must be dedicated to an ongoing lifestyle.

The natural strategy is to adjust lifestyle, dissolve scar tissue, reduce pain, improve immune function and most importantly to restore hormonal function and address emotional issues. Diet is vital as there must be no tobacco, and no more than one drink of alcohol, tea or coffee per week. There is no room for fast or processed foods.

Lifestyle should include a fairly non-stressful job and personal relationships; cultivate healthy relationships and nurturing friends. This may be the hardest challenge. Exercise regularly, mild to moderate movement.

Natural supplement essential on a daily basis includes fish oil, not the concentrated type, but salmon oil. 6,000 to 10,000 milligrams a day helps symptoms of endometriosis, is anti-inflammatory and cardio protective.
