All around the world we can now find more and more of these great endeavors turning out to be very well accepted and a resounding success.\u00a0 We the people have the responsibility to stop waste and not wait for governments to do something.\u00a0 Such examples already exist in <\/span>the U.S. and other European countries like\u00a0in the U.K.\u00a0 In an effort to\u00a0combat the\u00a0\u00a3230m\u00a0of edible food waste\u00a0across the country, British activists have formed the Real Junk Food Project, aiming to provide otherwise wasted food to people that need it, grocery store style.\u00a0 The first store to open is called \u201cthe warehouse\u201d and is located on the\u00a0Grangefield Industrial Estate.\u00a0 People pay on a \u201cpay as you feel\u201d basis, meaning they are only required to pay what they are able to.\u00a0 They are also able to trade work hours for food.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe warehouse has absolutely been our lifeline over the past month or so,\u201d <\/em>local resident Kirsty Rhodes told.\u00a0 Rhodes had suffered a diagnosis of chronic pain and her husband was forced to leave his job to take care of their children. \u00a0This is when the warehouse fell into place with them.\u00a0\u00a0\u201cWith three young children and two adults to\u00a0feed\u00a0we started to struggle straight away.\u00a0 Luckily we took the plunge to go to the warehouse and it was amazing!\u201d\u00a0<\/em>Kirsty said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Adam Smith, <\/span>the founder of the Real Junk Food Project<\/a>, says that the goal is to put one of these stores in every city in the UK.\u00a0\u00a0\u201cWe\u2019re about to start in Sheffield and Bradford,\u201d <\/em>he said. \u201cEvery city will now obtain central storage and run a \u2018people\u2019s supermarket.\u2019\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/em>The movement is spreading, as there are now\u00a0hundreds of cafes around the country feeding people on food waste.<\/span><\/p>\n
